Friel ‘to star’ in Ferrell film

Former Brookside TV star Anna Friel will star opposite Will Ferrell in adventure fantasy Land of the Lost, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Friel, 31, nominated for a best comedy actress Golden Globe for US show Pushing Daisies, will play Ferrell’s love interest in the Universal film.

The film is an adaptation of the 1970s US TV show of the same name.

In the movie, comedian Ferrell will play a palaeontologist who is transported back to prehistoric times.

The screenplay for Land of the Lost was completed before the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike.

In September, it was announced that Ferrell would be starring in the film and that Brad Silberling would direct.

Silberling’s previous films include Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Jim Carrey.

Last month, Friel, who now lives in LA, told the BBC she stayed sane by surrounding herself with British actors.

Anna Friel on coping with LA life

Actress Anna Friel has been talking about how she stays sane in LA by surrounding herself with fellow Brit actors. The former Brookside actress has won acclaim for her role in American drama Pushing Daisies and was recently nominated for a best actress gong at the Golden Globes.

She admits to being “slightly scared” of LA in the beginning when she didn’t really have a circle of friends and regular work.

But now she has a house and is more settled she finds that she is regularly host to visiting Brits. Continue…

Anna Friel: ‘I’ve never looked or felt so good!’

Anna Friel has revealed that she’s embraced her new lifestyle in Los Angeles, declaring she’s ‘never looked or felt so good’.

The actress - who stars in hit US TV show Pushing Daisies - is quoted in Closer magazine saying: “When I arrived, I didn’t think I would get into it. Then I got excited, thinking I was going to walk all the time and eat healthily, like people do out here. But at first I was working 17 hours a day, so there was no chance.”

However, two years on and life is looking good for the 31-year-old actress.

“I never looked or felt so good,” says Anna.

“I do Pilates every day and then I’ll have juice made of beetroot, celery and dandelion leaves.

“You really notice the difference - with your hair, your eyesight, everything - when you have juices every day. Plus there isn’t a big party lifestyle out here - or maybe I’m working too hard!”

She added: “I was always scared of the thought of being out here, but I’ve grown to love it!”

Pushing Daisies will screen on ITV1 sometime in 2008.

Anna Friel hires northern nanny for daughter Gracie

Anna Friel has hired a northern nanny so her daughter grows up with an accent.

The actress, 31, from Rochdale, Lancs, has moved to Los Angeles with her Harry Potter star boyfriend David Thewlis, 44, and their two-year-old girl Gracie.

Anna said: “I know my roots and where I’m from - I’m northern and I always will be. Now Gracie’s talking with northern mannerisms.

“She’s like, ‘Eh up, Mummy doesn’t like it like that, Mummy likes things neat in’t trailer’. She’s adorable.”

Former Brookside star Anna has just signed a six-year contract with Golden Globe-nominated hit American show Pushing Daisies, which is coming to ITV this spring.

Grim meets Grimm on Pushing Daisies

–If Pushing Daisies deserves its Golden Globe nominations, it might just be because in the land of TV crime dramas, this ABC comedy stands out.

Fans might shudder to think of Bryan Fuller’s candy-coloured romantic fairy tale as a mere procedural, but that’s how the creator pitched his idea. But is it a fairy tale with a procedural bent or a procedural with a fairy-tale twist?

No matter. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which in past years discovered fresh cable fare such as The Shield, Nip/Tuck and Big Love before the Emmys noticed them, bestowed three important Golden Globe nominations for Pushing Daisies.

The series was the only new show that received a nomination, alongside its lead actors, Lee Pace and Anna Friel.

“We all knew it was something special when we got involved with the project, but we didn’t realize other people would recognize it so quickly and so surely,” Friel said. “I think it confirms our belief that it’s inventive and something very special on TV that people haven’t seen before.” Continue…

Anna loses her Golden moment

Anna Friel was one of a host of British stars putting on a brave face after being robbed of the chance of glory at the Golden Globes.

The 31-year-old, who was nominated for an award, had bought a dress in anticipation of last night’s planned red carpet show.

But the glitzy ceremony was called off after Hollywood actors said they would boycott the event in solidarity with striking writers.

The winners were to be announced at a low-key news conference in Beverly Hills.

However, Friel and fellow Britons Keira Knightley, 22, and James McAvoy, 28, both nominated for awards for Atonement, were determined to keep their spirits up and donned their glad rags for the annual Baftas tea party instead.

Friel, clearly disappointed at not being able to attend a major awards where she was nominated, told Metro: ‘On the day I found out they weren’t going to happen, my stylist was in the car and I had all these dresses in the back of the car. It was like torture.’ Continue…

Golden Globes announced at ‘no frills’ ceremony

It’s every ’struggling-to-make-it-in-Hollywood’ British gal’s worst nightmare.

Anna Friel was just one of many British stars putting a brave face on it after the Golden Globes red carpet event was replaced by a simple press conference last night. Plans for a glitzy bash were abandoned after striking writers threatened to protest at the event, and actors warned they’d stay at home rather than cross the picket line.

None of which reached poor Anna until she’d picked out her dress! The former Brookside star was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series for hit US show Pushing Daisies, but didn’t get to have her big night on the red carpet. She told the Metro newspaper:

‘On the day I found out they weren’t going to happen,my stylist was in the car and I had all these dresses in the back of the car. It was like torture’.

Hmm, wonder I if she still tried them all on and danced around her house like I do?

Anyhoo, Cinderella has decided she will still go to the ball (just a slightly different one), as she isn’t going to let her chosen dress go to waste. Thrifty little Anna said: ‘I’m not going to tell you what dress it was because I am going to wear it to something else!’
