Kristin, Kristin Everywhere

Kristin Chenoweth may not be on Broadway right now, and she’s still on hiatus from her popular ABC sitcom Pushing Daisies, but she’s one busy lady. On May 6, she performs a solo concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; on May 18, she helps Encompass Opera Theatre celebrate the birthday of Apple Tree composer Jerry Bock, and on May 20, she’ll join Marvin Hamlisch, Raul Esparza, and the New York Philharmonic for the Broadway Showstoppers concert at Avery Fisher Hall. In between her preparations for all these events, she took a few minutes to chat via email with TheaterMania.THEATERMANIA: You’re heading to Chicago soon? Does that city hold any special memories for you?
KRISTIN CHENOWETH: I remember we opened You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in nearby Skokie, and Chicago became one of my favorite cities. Continue…

Kristin Chenoweth, This One’s Personal Presented April 12 in Manhattan

Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth lends her voice to an evening to benefit Alveolar Capillary Displaysia (ACD) April 12.

Entitled Kristin Chenoweth, This One’s Personal: A Concert to Stop ACD, the fundraiser will be held at the Helen Mills Event Space in Manhattan. Show time at the 140-seat venue is 8 PM.

The evening is produced by NiCole Robinson (”The West Wing,” “All My Children”) and her husband Craig Snyder, who lost their seven-week-old son Lincoln to ACD this past summer. Actress Robinson told Playbill.com, “Kristin Chenoweth is one of my best friends. We worked together on ‘The West Wing,’ and she has vowed to sing until enough money is raised to pay for the science that will isolate this gene and end ACD so that no other baby has to die in the unspeakable way her little friend Lincoln did. [Robinson and Snyder] have created the 3 Angels Fund for ACD Research, and we will have our first benefit this April 12 with all proceeds going directly to fund science.” Continue…

Tony Award winners Angela Lansbury, Kristin Chenoweth and David Hyde Pierce are among the celebrities taking part in Project Teddy Bear 2008.

Founded by Lisa Spodak in 2004 in an effort to raise additional funds for her participation in Avon’s Breast Cancer Walk, Project Teddy Bear auctions off individual stuffed bears signed by celebrities. A photograph of the celebrity holding the bear is also part of the package.

Among the performers who took part in Project Teddy Bear 2008 are Kristin Bell, Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall, Tom Cavanagh, Kathy Griffin, Jennifer Garner, America Ferrera, Michael McKean, Annette O’Toole, Sara Ramirez and David Schwimmer. Bidding on the aforementioned bears concludes late March 21.

Spodak continually adds bears to her auctions throughout the year. For further information and to see a list of available bears, visit www.lisawalks.com.

Kristin Chenoweth Withdraws from London Production of Candide

Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth has cited overriding TV commitments as her reason for pulling out of the English National Opera’s summer revival of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, which opens June 25 after a single preview on June 23.Chenoweth’s withdrawal is due to scheduling conflicts with her ABC series Pushing Daisies following the resolution of the Hollywood writers strike. The American soprano Anna Christy will step in as Cunegonde, Chenoweth’s designated role, for most of the performances, having just made her U.K. opera debut in the title role of David Alden’s production of Lucia di Lammermoor. Christy will sing the first six performances, with a replacement Cunegonde for the remainder of the run still to be cast.

The production, directed by Robert Carsen and choreographed by Rob Ashford, stars Beverley Klein, Toby Spence and Alex Jennings. It has previously been seen in both Milan and Paris (with a different cast).

Candide opens on June 23 at the London Coliseum, where it will play for 13 performances only.

Pushing Oscars - Kristin Chenoweth to sing at Academy Awards

The buzz about ABC’s Oscar broadcast is starting in earnest, and yesterday it was announced that Kristin Chenoweth, the adorable Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies, has been tapped to sing one of the Academy Award nominated songs, “That’s How You Know” from the film Enchanted, according to the Baltimore Sun. Kristin will be joined by Marlon Saunders, who played the Central Park Calypso singer in the movie. By the by, Enchanted’s star, Amy Adams, will also be singing on the show. She’s doing, “Happy Working Song,” another nominated song from the Disney hit. FYI, that’s the sing-along tune she did in the film with cockroaches, rats and other happy vermin. You can just imagine Walt Disney spinning in his grave, can’t you?Anyway, aside from being a scene-stealer on Pushing Daisies, Kristin is an award winning Broadway star, having won the Tony in 1999 for her role as Sally in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was also nominated for Wicked, in which she played Glinda, the Good Witch, opposite Idina Menzel, who played the Wicked Witch of the West — and won the Tony! Then Idina costarred with Amy Adams in Enchanted. Everything’s connected in a weird way, isn’t it?

Well, you can count on Kristin making the most of her Oscar moment. She has an amazing voice — which has been showcased on a few episodes of Pushing Daisies, such as “Pigeon” and “Dummy” — and this song suits her perfectly. The Academy Awards ceremony will air on February 24th.

Chenoweth in juggling act

Pound for pound, tiny Kristin Chenoweth is hands-down the most talented woman in showbiz.

The Broadway star with near-perfect pitch headlined the original production of “Wicked,” and won a Tony Award for “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Now she’s juggling television and film roles as one of the main characters in the new ABC hit “Pushing Daisies” while co-starring with Reese Witherspoon in “Four Christmases,” now in production.

“I’m a very lucky actress right now,” she said. “Not a lot of people are working and I just hope there can be a quick resolution (to the writers strike).” Continue…
