The only new series to receive a Golden Globe nomination, ‘Pushing Daisies’ keeps it fresh and colorful.
Fans might shudder to think of Bryan Fuller’s candy-colored romantic fairy tale as a mere procedural, but that’s actually how the creator pitched his idea. But is it a fairy tale with a procedural bent or a procedural with a fairy tale twist?
No matter. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., which in past years discovered fresh cable fare such as “The Shield,” “Nip/Tuck” and “Big Love” before the Emmys noticed them, bestowed three important Golden Globe nominations for “Pushing Daisies.”
The series was the only new show that received a nomination alongside its lead actors, Lee Pace and Anna Friel.
“We all knew it was something special when we got involved with the project but we didn’t realize other people would recognize it so quickly and so surely,” Friel said. “I think it confirms our belief that it’s inventive and something very special on TV that people haven’t seen before.” Continue…
It’s been a while since I fleshed out what’s “On My Radar,” but fortunately these all are relatively recent additions. Therefore I’ll spare you my philosophical takes on potato soup and the fall equinox:
1. “Pushing Daisies” — The best new show on TV. I realize that it’s an acquired taste, with its fairy-tale-dropping-acid-with-Tim-Burton-and-J.K.-Rowling fantasy atmosphere, but it’s the right combination of wit, heart and imagination. And that’s exactly what made “Big Fish” and Harry Potter so much fun. Now, if only Ned could touch dying shows like “Saturday Night Live” and “Desperate Housewives” and bring them back to life. Maybe after that minute deadline, residual shows on life support (”ER,” I’m looking your way) could be put out of their misery.
Hey guys, I added screencaptures to “The Fun in Funeral” yesterday but I totally forgot to update it on the main page and let you know. I added them here:
