"dummy" ratings; daisies wilts
Daisies' ratings wilted slightly in episode two, taking in 10.7 million
viewers.
The “missing” second episode of ITV1’s US drama import Pushing Daisies, which stars former Brookside actor Anna Friel, is to be shown on the broadcaster’s website on Saturday.
ITV has decided to live stream the “magic episode” on ITV.com after the show’s first series finale airs on ITV1 between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday, May 31.
The episode, which involves pie-maker Ned, played by Lee Pace, coming to terms with his ability to bring people back from the dead, was dropped by ITV1 to prevent the nine-part series from clashing with the Euro 2008 football tournament, which begins next Saturday, June 7.
“It’s a standalone episode and so many fans wanted to see it that the decision was taken to schedule it online on what promises to be one of ITV’s biggest nights,” said a spokesman for the show.
Other programmes in Saturday’s lineup include the final of runaway hit Britain’s Got Talent and An Audience With Neil Diamond.
The missing instalment is being billed by ITV as a “magic episode” of the series, which has been steadily losing viewers since it began transmission in April. Continue…
The former Brookside babe scored a huge hit in the US with her series Pushing Daisies, in which she plays the reanimated sweetheart of a man who brings the dead back to life.
However, while the show’s gone down a storm in America, prompting ITV1 to snap it up, the British broadcaster has seen their ratings slump from 5.7 million viewers to less than three million.
As a result, the axe is hanging over the series, and not even the lovely Ned could bring it back from the grave.
An ITV insider told The Sun: “It’d be a shame if ITV boss Peter Fincham axed it because, despite the ratings, it is quality telly.”
Too right it is - and maybe if the channel had thought about it properly, instead of chopping out episodes to accommodate football, it might do better.
Give it a chance Mr Fincham, go on, you know you want to.

Warner Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Pushing Daisies Season 1 on 16th September 2008 priced at $29.98 SRP. From creator Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me), this romantic comedy shows us the fairy tale like world of gifted pie-maker Ned (Lee Pace), a man who can bring dead people back to life through the power of his touch. The same touch he must use to ‘kill’ them after no more than a minute or another person will die. With the help of Emerson (Chi McBride), a local PI, Ned uses his ability to solve murder cases and cash in on any rewards. But things get complicated when Ned’s childhood sweetie Chuck (Anna Friel) is the victim of a murder and Ned just can’t help but wake her up for good – the only hitch is they can never touch each other.
Episodes are spread across three-discs presented in anamorphic widescreen with English DD5.1 and Portuguese DD2.0 audio. English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Thai subtitles are also provided.
Extras include:
Pie Time – Time for Pie: Interactive featurette where the entire cast/creative members reveal series secrets
Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel has been voted TV’s sexiest leading woman. One in five have the hots for Friel, a poll carried out by the Hallmark Channel revealed, reports the Daily Record.
Eva Longoria of Desperate Housewives followed Friel in the sexiest female TV character top 10.

Taresm Singh’s The Fall takes place in Los Angeles during the 1920’s. The story revolves around a little immigrant girl (Catinca Untaru) who finds herself in a hospital recovering from a fall. She strikes up a friendship with a bedridden man (Lee Pace) who captivates her with a whimsical story that removes her far from the hospital doldrums into the exotic landscapes of her imagination. Making sure he keeps the girl interested in the story, he interweaves her family and people she likes from the hospital into this extraordinarily visual tale. We recently caught up with both the film’s director Taresm Singh as well as his leading man, Lee Pace, for some insight into the production.
IN THE past five years, Lee Pace has played a corrupt CIA agent, a cold-blooded killer and a transvestite whose lover is beaten to death.
So his latest role, as one of Amy Adams’ many admirers in the ’30s romantic confection Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day provided some welcome light relief.”All my character Michael really has to do is fall in love with Amy – and that’s an easy thing to do,” says the American actor of the strawberry blonde Enchanted star, and 2006 Oscar nominee, pictured with Pace.
“For a bit of a challenge, I decided to give myself a northern accent and model him on a rough, heart-on-your-sleeve, Albert Finney kind of character.” Continue…
Anna Friel has ruled out having any more children until ‘Pushing Daisies’ has finished.
The 31-year-old actress - who has a three-year-old daughter Gracie with partner, actor David Thewlis - wants to expand her family, but is more concerned with continuing her role in the hit US TV show.
Anna plays Charlotte Charles, who is bought back to life by her high school sweetheart, but discovers she will die again if she ever touches him.
She said: “I definitely want more kids. I’d like another two probably, but not yet. I can’t right now - I’m not sure how they would explain my character on ‘Pushing Daisies’ getting pregnant when her leading man can’t actually touch her. What am I - the Virgin Mary?”
Anna also said she is not worried about coping with pregnancy in weight-conscious city Los Angeles because the obsession with size is unhealthy.
She added: “I don’t think being self-obsessed is a very endearing quality to have. Just being self-aware and healthy is enough, I think.”
